Michael Bond, Paddington Bear

Michael Bond (1926 - 2017) best known as the author and creator of Paddington Bear books, at Hatchards bookshop, Piccadilly. Back in 1957, Michael Bond was working as a television cameraman for the BBC. Returning home on Christmas Eve, Michael Bond needed to buy his wife a Christmas present. Near Paddington Station, a lonely teddy bear, on a shop shelf, caught his eye. He bought it for her. This very Teddy bear became the inspiration for “A Bear Called Paddington”, first published in 1958 by William Collins & Sons, written by the author Michael Bond and illustrated by Peggy Fortnum, the first of many Paddington Bear book.
