Statue of a winkle is a prime example of winkle statuary. The original historic winkle statue displayed in Hastings perhaps for over a hundred years. However due to damage this old sculpture has been replaced in 2012 with a more ornate appraisal of a winkle by a modern sculptor for the twenty first century, sponsored by the Winkle Club, a society founded by Hasting Fishermen in 1900 to help raise funds for underprivileged fishing families.
