L’Odyssée

“L’Odyssée” (The Odyssey) is a beautiful film directed by Jérôme Salle. It is about the back story to the adventures of Jacques Cousteau, the under ocean explorer, filmmaker and also co-inventor of the aqua-lung (scuba) that made it all possible. The film describes his adventures at sea in his ship ‘Calypso’, his relationships with his family and friends. Superlative film storytelling, photography and acting all around especially Lambert Wilson as Jacques Cousteau, Pierre Niney as his challenging son, and Audrey Tautou as his enchanting but troubled wife. Jacques Cousteau's fame and fortunes bring temptations and dilemmas. Jacques-Yves Cousteau, apart from his contribution to science, conservation and in bringing awareness of the previously hidden depths of the ocean, in my opinion, originated the reality programme format by the way he made his television films. A definite film to see, enjoy, think about, and in a cinema if possible for best effect.

Location: The deep blue sea, France
