Beardsley by Blanche

Aubrey Beardsley (born in Brighton England 1872 - 1898) portrait by Jacques-Émile Blanche (1861-1942). Oil painting displayed in the Oscar Wild exhibition at the Petit Palais (on loan from NPG London). Aubrey Vincent Beardsley short lived career but extraordinary English illustrator, drawing in black ink, partly influenced by Japanese woodblock printing, he was associated with the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements. Beardsley contracted Tuberculosis (TB) a medical condition that it has been suggested may have effected his unusual artistic vision, he died aged 25 years old in Menton, South of France.
