Derek Jarman home

When, Derek Jarman (1942 – 1994) artist, writer, film-maker, was diagnosed with AIDS, he moved to a fisherman's cottage in Dungeness, where he lived for the last nine years of his life. Dungeness is a shingle landscape that is bleakly beautiful, in the background to the left can just be seen a corner of, Dungeness nuclear power station, that is not to everybody's taste. However gardening this strange terrain became Derek Jarman passion, while as an integral part of the design, displaying sculptural pieces made with collected, shells, stones, rusting debris and flotsam washed up on the beach.
