Charlie Watts / Rolling Stones

Charlie Watts (1941 - 2021), Rolling Stones drummer and Jazz musician.

When we arrived in the South London basement music rehearsal room, Charlie Watts was drumming away with a Brazilian drummer, and you could see his love of percussion was wider than rock music.

Afterwards when Charley Watts spoke with us he came across as down to earth and a pretty relaxed guy. For example when the interviewer Hugh Curry from CBC TV asked him “If it bothered him when the fans screamed (a fad at the time) during the Rolling Stones concerts? Shouldn't they be listening to the music! Charley Watts answered “Oh no, it doesn't bother me, I quite like it when they do”.

Later when answering a question about the Rolling Stones recent release, an untypical Stones one, but ‘highly’ effective psychedelic sixth album “Their Satanic Majesties Request” he said it seemed to be an album that just sort of slipped out.
