Alan Turing (1912 - 1954): his home from the age of one to nine. Turing, mathematician, cryptographer, and a pioneer in computer science. His work was crucial to breaking the Second World War Enigma codes. Because Turing's father worked in the civil service commission during Turing's childhood years, Turing's parents travelled between England and India, leaving their two sons to stay with a retired Army couple, they wanted them to receive an English education.
